I will return: a poem

You see this girl here, yeah?
She doesn't give up.
She refuses to fail.
Because failure is absolute.
A minor bump road in the road
is just a bump. Texture, which gives
more clarity to the bigger picture.
Resistance is needed to build strength
and endurance. So without our bumps,
our imperfections, our periods of small
difficulty, we reject the idea of imperfection,
to be without blemish, which is dull and uninteresting.

So when things get rough, I make
a vow to return. To return to the mic,
and use the voice that God gave me. To
expose and shame the enemy, because
he is already defeated.
To return to the script, write what enters
this brain of mine. To explore the deepest
crevices of the human mind. To pick apart what
does not make sense, and to put in on full display.
To be fine and comfortable with showing some vulnerability,
because some of us need a reminder, that we are all human and
that we all bleed the same.
To return to the stage, to shout and sing and proclaim the good work
the Lord has done in my life.
When the enemy kicks me down,
I will return to rise again.

I will return.
