The hour I lost: a poem

One step in front of the other,
stepping on the soft green grass.
Sounds of laughter
from small children.
A four year old boy
learning to ride his bike.
Thinking of a coffee shop to
stroll to.
A father and his daughter,
hand in hand.
Chatting about where to find
water to drink
for the dog.
A mother
consoling her son
as he cries for
ice cream.
A middle aged man
running with his
teenage daughter,
racing against each other.
A Chihuahua and
Pomeranian,
barking to see
who's bigger and badder.
The wind is blowing,
a little too chilly for my taste.
Luckily I brought my jacket.
Scents of sandwiches and
fruit juice,
as they lay across a
red plaid picnic blanket,
on the vibrant green grass.
I close my eyes
and take it all in.
My camera isn't working,
so I fight to capture this
in my mind.
I was startled by
Frankie.
Little brown dog.
His owner smiled and continued
walking.
Anyways
The air is crisp.
The sky is a rich blue,
with a few whispy clouds.
Palm trees down the street,
dancing with the wind
and having fun.
Breathing deep
while I flirt with
the hour I lost.
